The CAPM® credential is appropriate for early career professionals or project team members seeking opportunities to manage larger projects and gain more responsibility or add project management skills to your current role. Individuals who contribute specialized skills to a project team can benefit from this certification by allowing them to align their work with that of project managers.

CAPM candidate eligibility requirements:

  • A Secondary degree (High School, Associate or Global Equivalent)
  • 1500 hours of project experience OR
  • 23 hours project management education

The PMP® credential is one of the most highly demanded credentials in the global marketplace and is appropriate for mid to senior level professionals who lead and direct projects. PMP®s command higher salaries than non-credentialed professionals.

PMP candidate eligibility requirements:

  • A secondary degree with 5 years of project management experience with 7500 hours leading and directing projects
  • A Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of project management experience and 4500 hours leading and directing projects
  • 35 hours of project management education.

Can I take this course if I don't intend to sit for the exam?

This program is open to anyone who wants to increase their project management leadership skills.  Sitting for the exam is not a requirement however there will be topics covered in the class sessions that may be more directed to those preparing for the exams.

What content is covered in this program?

This course teaches to the five process groups defined by the profession

  • Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing the Project

What study materials are used?

NIU uses the CERTWISE Learning System for PMP® Exam Preparation and the PMBOK® Guide as the study materials for both exam levels, however the body of knowledge content covered in the program is more comprehensive than what is covered on the CAPM® exam and focuses on detailed content relevant to the PMP® examination.
